Chance's Café
Version 1.5
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
an IGM for Seth Able's LORD
Written In TP 7
Using the DDPlus package
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Technical Instructions (docs)
[legal stuff]
I own this. (uhh, copyright 1996 Illusion Software).
If you use this software, you do so at your own risk. I've spent several
versions testing it and retesting it. Works great on my board. Seems to
be completely flawless. If you have problems at all with it, you can
either contact me at the given places, or just delete the thing completely
from your system. What did you expect? It's freeware.
In any case, if it breaks, it's not my legal responsibility. The only thing
this IGM is guaranteed to do is take up space on your drive. Period.
[end of legal stuff]
[What is it?]
It's an IGM for LORD. Big surprise eh?
Okay, I'll elaborate.
* Users can have one of four types of coffee, each with it's own
benefits. Not too earth shaking in the altering of the game,
but something to spend their money on. I may make these benefits
configurable in the future, but for now they are fixed. Hey, it's
freeware, whaddya want? :) If enough sysops want them configurable,
I'll put out an update. (see the What Do I Do section for more on
the benefits..) For now, the prices ARE configurable....
* Users can also converse with other patrons in similar style to the inn
in LORD. Seems users LOVE to write stuff in this game....
* Users can walk into the garden (yes the one from LORD, it accesses the
GARDEN.TXT file which it seems is a really RARE occurance on my board)
and arrange flowers to their enjoyment, or if they are so inclined, they
may take a leak in the garden. The second option has a serious
disadvantage at times (as you will find out), but can also be beneficial.
I put this in at the prompting of my wife, who thought it was a hilariously
funny idea. I also have users who love to discuss the merits of urinating
in the LORD garden. Strange kids. Nothing derogatory in the text though.
As of version 1.4, this option is configurable. please see the whats.new
file for more info.
* All of these options can be done only once a day (one cup of coffee only,
and one of the two options in the garden) except for the conversation,
which can be done all day (time permitting) if they so desire.
* Any errors that occur during the operation of this IGM will be logged
to a file called CHANCE.ERR. This file will be written in the LORD
directory (unfortunately) and will contain all the info I need to
correct the error. Send it to me if you'd like me to fix the problem.
As of this writing, the IGM should be completely error free, but it's
in the code none-the-less.
[What do I do?]
Please see the UPGRADE.DOC file for info on upgrading from a
previous version.
Otherwise, just unzip the archive into it's own directory.
If you must put it in the LORD directory it shouldn't harm anything,
suit yourself, but it is designed to go into it's own directory.
Then run the CHANCFG.EXE program and fill in the info required.
The benefits of the four coffees are as follows just in case you
think they will alter your game too much for your liking.
1. Swiss Almond Delight (no relevance in any of the names...)
-will boost the players charm by 6 - 10 points
2. Double Fudge Mocha
-will boost the players hitpoints (not the MAX hitpoints)
by 31-50. Maybe a little high...give me feedback.
3. Cappucino
-will give the player one addition skill point for the
day. works for all three skills. doesn't change their
actual points, just allows another use.
4. Espresso (most vile stuff I have *EVER* tasted)
-will boost either strength or defense by 6 - 10 points.
random determination of which.
None of these are really that altering, but let me know if you think
they exceed normal tolerances for game disruption. Works great here.
Of course, with the prices being configurable, you can determine how
much impact they have on the game.
Now [I]nstall it and away you go!
Simple as that. If you hate it, just use the config again and
[U]ninstall it. It won't delete itself, but it will remove itself
from the 3rdparty.dat file. The rest is up to you.
[What should be in the Archive?]
Well, if you have the original archive this is the list in it:
CHANCFG.EXE - The configuration program.
CHANCE.EXE - The main executable. The actual IGM.
CHANCE.DOC - You're Reading This One.
UPGRADE.DOC - Information on Upgrading.
FILE_ID.DIZ - Description for your bbs file lists.
WHATS.NEW - Details on bugfixes, updates etc.
and these files are created after the config program has been run and
the IGM has been used once.
MAINT.DAT - Keeps track of what day it is.
CHANCE.DAT - This is the config file.
Contains path info, and the price list
for coffees, as well as user usage info.
[What does it cost?]
This one's free. No cost to you, or anyone.
Of course, I like to hear from people who use my stuff, so if
you feel like it, drop me a line at one of the contact places from
the list below.
[How do I find you?]
Uhh, why? Did it melt your machine? Did it blow up your hardware?
Or do you want to pile heaps of gratitude upon me for such a simple
but useful IGM? If you MUST reach me, see the contacts list at the
bottom of this file. If it's concerning the first two options, see
the legal thingy up top. :)
[Okay, so how *DO* I contact you?]
Alright, if you must contact me do so as indicated below:
[ Snail Mail: ]

[ Internet Email ]

(if you get the mail back, I've changed providers)

That's all the ways you can get ahold of me. I do read the LORD and
LORD_SYSOP (uhh, I think that's the Echo Tag) Fido echos, so you
could try and leave me mail there, but those echos occasionally skip
by someone upstream and I miss a few posts. The best way to guarantee
yourself a response is by Internet Email or direct crashmail to my
system.
[Will you write me a custom IGM?]
Sure. If you have an idea for an IGM, or just want an IGM for
your board that does something you want it to, let me know. I'll
program it if it's possible to do, and maybe it'll be free too.
[Thanks go to these guys]
Steve Lorenz, Bob Dalton, and Scott Baker for the DDPlus Package. Kudos.
Seth Able Robinson for his great and long lived doorgame LORD. more kudos.
Joseph Masters for the view of his Aratime source codes. big help dude.
And thanks to Pepsi. Man, I should own a portion of that company by
now. And if it weren't for them, I couldn't get my cool new Pepsi Stuff!
end of doc file, go install this thing!
*** note ***
I'm not the greatest at writing documentation, so if something
is missing from these docs, let me know so I can fix it up.
These are kinda long, but get the whole idea across....
